COLUMBIA — The Rock Bridge girls basketball team has a simple goal at this point in its season.
“Our goal is to win the district championship,” Rock Bridge coach Jill Nagel said.
Well, the Lady Bruins are on the right track. The defending state champions advanced to the Class 5 District 9 final Tuesday night after beating Timberland 49-20 at Holt High School in Wentzville.
The Bruins (22-4) will have another chance tonight to improve their record as they battle Troy Buchanan for the right to be crowned district champions. The game takes place at 7 p.m. Friday in Wentzville.
If the Bruins fall tonight, three seniors, Kelsey Eckenrode, Katherine Harry and Rachel Rutter, will see their careers come to an end. Although the three seniors were not available for comment, Nagel spoke on them and the team.
“I definitely think that our team would be disappointed (with a loss),” Nagel said. “This is what we’ve been working for all year.”
The last time that these two teams met, Rock Bridge defeated Troy Buchanan by 52 points in a 73-21 blowout.
