PrintCOLUMBIA — Former justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, will deliver a keynote address Friday during a law review symposium at MU.
She was invited to speak at 10:30 a.m. in Busch Auditorium, Cornell Hall. Her talk falls between panel discussions on state judicial selection and retention systems. It is open to ticketed guests only.
Other presenters throughout the day include Chief Justice Laura Denvir Stith of Missouri; Judge W. Duane Benton, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals; and Roy Schotland of the Georgetown University Law Center.
O'Connor was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan in 1981 and served until her retirement from the Court in 2006.
Prior to her appointment, O'Connor was an elected official and judge in Arizona.
She is currently the chancellor of the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
