COLUMBIA – First Chance For Children will hold a toy and book drive that will run from March 2 through March 13.  This is the first time that the organization has held such a drive.

“With spring cleaning just around the corner, we wanted to try this and see what the community response was,” parent education coordinator Tammy Byington said.

First Chance For Children is a nonprofit education organization whose goal is to prepare disadvantaged children for success in school and life.

Although the drive does not begin until Monday, Byington has already received numerous calls from community members wanting to donate.

“I’m anticipating it will go well," Byington said. "I’m really hopeful.”

The organization is asking for donations of new and gently used infant, toddler and pre-kindergarten toys and books. Beginning next week, donations can be brought to the following sites: all nine Commerce Bank locations; Toys "R" Us, 1901 Bernadette Drive; First Chance For Children’s Lend and Learn Toy Library, 1200 Wilkes Blvd.; and from noon to 3 p.m. on March 7 at the Walmart at 415 Conley Road.
