Columbia resident arrested on assault, other charges

COLUMBIA — A few minutes before 7 p.m. Saturday, deputies from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 5600 block of Clearview Road to respond to a report of a disturbance with weapons, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that a verbal argument had taken place between the suspect and the victim, when the suspect threatened to physically harm the victim. The victim then left the residence and went to a neighboring residence.

The suspect then went to the neighboring residence and fired a handgun near the occupant of the house and then left the area, the release said. No one was injured.

According to the release, Anthony Hayes, 27, of Columbia, was arrested for third-degree domestic assault, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, possession of a concealable weapon, driving with a revoked driver's license and possession of a controlled substance.
