With one swing of his bat, Missouri catcher Trevor Coleman lifted the Tigers baseball team out of a seven-game losing streak. His two-run home run in the eighth inning Sunday at Arizona State propelled the No. 15 Tigers to a 5-2 win.
Senior Scooter Hicks picked up the save, retiring three consecutive batters in the bottom of the eighth inning after Tyler Clark walked two. The game ended early because Missouri had to catch a plane back to Kansas City, ending its 11-day, nine-game road trip in which the team finished 2-7.
It was the first loss of the season for No. 8 Arizona State (8-1).
Missouri sophomore Nick Tepesch went 6.1 innings, striking out a career-high eight batters while walking two and allowing one earned run. He took a no decision.
With the win, coach Tim Jamieson moved past John "Hi" Simmons into second place on the all-time wins list in MU baseball history.
