COLUMBIA — A Boone County Fire Protection District engine stationed in Harrisburg rolled over and burned en route to a fire around 1 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release.
The engine was traveling southbound on Route J in response to a grass fire when its right side left the roadway. It veered back onto the highway and struck a culvert at Gray Road, flipping one and a half times to end up on its back blocking the roadway, the release stated.
Another engine was also responding to the fire and reported the accident.
The firefighter in the second truck was able to assist Samantha Lamp, 22, the driver, who was the only occupant of engine involved in the accident. The truck was on fire as she escaped. Lamp was taken to Boone Hospital Center by ambulance, complaining of neck and head pain, said the release. She has since been released.
The engine was severely damage and is most likely irreparable, according to the release.
