The Rock Bridge girls basketball team is one step closer to back-to-back state championships after beating Waynesville 50-30 Wednesday night in its Class 5 sectional game in Union.
Senior Katherine Harry led the Bruins with 16 points and junior Amaya Williams followed with 10.
Rock Bridge coach Jill Nagel said the victory was was once again a team effort.
“It was total contribution all around,” Nagel said by phone. “We were able to clear the bench, which is always good.”
Nagel said the Bruins (24-4) set the tone with their defense, which is something that they always try to do. Rock Bridge, which led 28-16 at halftime, outscored Waynesville (17-11) in every quarter.
“The seniors did an excellent job as always,” Nagel said. “They just make it easy for every one else to follow.”
The Bruins advance to quarterfinal play against Nixa (25-2) at 2:45 p.m. Saturday in Rolla.
