UPDATE: Nixa workers face new charges; loss increased to $750,000

OZARK — One of the men accused of stealing funds from the city of Nixa is facing another felony charge, and authorities now believe $750,000 in streets funding was stolen.

The charge of felony stealing was filed Thursday against Larry Covington, former superintendent of streets. He and former city employee David Griggs were already charged with stealing by deceit.

Donovan Dobbs of the Christian County Prosecutor's Office said several sheets of steel and other hardware that belonged to the city was found in a building on Covington's property.

Authorities said Thursday that they have uncovered a third bogus company had been formed by Griggs to siphon off city funds. He and Covington had already been accused of setting up two companies. Prosecutors previously believed that $500,000 was stolen.

Covington's wife, Paula Covington, is charged as an accessory.
