PrintLast weekend, the Missouri women’s basketball team seemed to have turned a corner. However, the Tigers stumbled in their final two games and will finish in 11th place in the Big 12 Conference after losing to Texas Tech 63-56 on Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.
The loss is the Tigers' fourth in their past five games. Missouri’s 11th-place finish is only one spot better than its last-place finish last season.
Last Saturday, Missouri picked up its first Big 12 road victory of the season by defeating Colorado 66-55. The win put the Tigers in a position to move up to as far as eighth in the Big 12 if they could beat No. 24 Iowa State at home and Texas Tech on the road.
Iowa State handed Missouri a 62-47 defeat in the Tigers’ home finale before Texas Tech beat Missouri in its final regular season game Saturday.
Missouri was seemingly in control of Saturday’s game. The Tigers took a 27-22 lead into halftime and stretched the advantage to 33-24 with 15:22 remaining. However, a 9-0 Red Raiders run put Missouri behind 50-45 with just more than seven minutes left, and the Tigers never led again. Texas Tech made five of its six free-throw attempts in the final 1:06 to seal the victory.
Senior Alyssa Hollins led the Tigers with 16 points but only scored four points in the second half. She finished the game six-of-22 from the field. Sophomore RaeShara Brown also added nine points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. Texas Tech junior Jordan Murphree led the Red Raiders with 21 points.
The loss drops Missouri to 13-16 and 4-12 in the Big 12. Texas Tech moves to 16-14 and 6-10 with the win.
Missouri will now head to Oklahoma City for the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament. The Tigers will play No. 6-seed Texas at 7 p.m. Thursday. Missouri lost to the Longhorns 66-56 at Mizzou Arena in the teams’ only meeting this season.

Yes it is time for a change. They can not keep Cindy another year because they wont be able to recruit on a coaches final year in a contract. Its not fair to the current players. When is the media going to report on her job status?
