JOPLIN — An Oklahoma woman brought to a southwest Missouri hospital suffering from serious dehydration claims she was held hostage.
Amber G. Barr, 29, of Fairland, Okla., was brought to St. John's Regional Medical Center on Thursday. Joplin police Cpl. Chuck Niess said her condition was so serious she was placed in intensive care.
Barr reportedly told a nurse she had been held hostage.
An officer spoke with a 67-year-old man who brought Barr to the hospital. The man denied holding her hostage and said he gave her water on the way to the hospital.
The man left the hospital after speaking with the officer. The case has been referred to Oklahoma authorities.
Hospital personnel said another male acquaintance of Barr's said the man and Barr had lived together for about two weeks.
