ST. LOUIS — Heavy rains prompt renewed flooding concerns in Missouri, Iowa and Illinois — states still recovering from last summer's flood.
Some areas received up to 3 inches of rain over the weekend, and the National Weather Service is predicting another round of significant rain through Tuesday.
Several tributaries of the Mississippi River are already flooding, and the Mississippi is expected to crest above flood stage this week from southern Iowa south to near St. Louis. Most of the flooding is expected to be minor to moderate.
By midday Monday, water was pouring through a levee break at Wapello, Iowa, covering a road and threatening thousands of acres of land along the Iowa River. The levee was damaged in the 2008 flood and never repaired.
