PrintCOLUMBIA — The League of Women Voters of Columbia-Boone County will host a free “Utility Bill-Cutters Workshop” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Columbia Public Library.
Energy experts and community members will be present to offer energy-saving and cost-cutting advice, personal anecdotes and information on rebates and tax credits for energy efficiency improvements, said Win Collins, co-chair of the league’s energy committee.

“We planned this a few months ago,” Collins said of the league’s timing. “This just happened to be the topic because we felt that it would be helpful to people.”
She said the league wants to encourage people to make their homes energy efficient.
“It’s clear that energy costs are going to continue to rise,” she said. “It’s just so sensible for people to take some measures now and make those improvements.”
Collins also emphasized the rebates homeowners can receive for having energy assessments done and the tax credits they can earn for making energy improvements.
“Putting those two together can really cut the cost of upgrading a home,” she said. “Home energy assessments do cost some money, but if the person makes the improvements, they do get that money back in the next couple years.”
