COLUMBIA – A man had to be extricated from his vehicle Tuesday night after he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
Paul Vitale, 19, was driving northbound on the 2300 block of Old Highway 63 South at 6:48 p.m. when he lost control of his 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, overcorrected, and ran off the side of the road, according to the news release.
The vehicle struck a tree when it was heading off the roadway, spun around and came to rest in an embankment nearly 75 feet from the road.
Columbia firefighters were called to extricate Vitale from his car. According to the release, Vitale was transported to University Hospital with what looked to be non-life threatening injuries. He was in stable condition at the time the news release was issued.
Officers issued Vitale summons for failure to drive in a single lane and failure to wear a seatbelt, the news release said.
