Plattsburg woman dies in highway crash

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS — The Missouri Highway Patrol says a Plattsburg woman died Saturday night in a head-on collision on U.S. 69 north of Excelsior Springs.

Sixty-year-old Shirley Harless was killed after her vehicle was hit head-on by a vehicle driven by 28-year-old Lucas Bates of Lawson.

Bates' vehicle, after the head-on crash, went off the road and caught fire.

Harless was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bates and a passenger in Harless' vehicle were treated for serious injuries. Two others had minor injuries.
