The Missouri baseball team led No. 1 Texas 3-1 headed to the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday in Austin, Texas. The Tigers were three outs away from winning a weekend series with the best team in the country according to "Baseball America."
However, the Tigers (8-10) allowed the Longhorns (14-2) to score three runs in the bottom of the ninth and lost 4-3 in their first series of Big 12 Conference play.
With runners on first and third with one out in the ninth and the game tied at three, Missouri shortstop Michael Liberto caught a line-drive and in an attempt to get a double-play at first base, threw the ball wildly, allowing the runner on third to score the winning run.
Starting pitcher Nick Tepesch pitched eight innings allowing only one run before being pulled in the ninth inning for closer Scooter Hicks after hitting a batter and allowing him to advance to second base to start the ninth inning.
Right fielder Aaron Senne hit a double and a triple for two RBIs and scored a run. He also drew two walks.
Missouri plays SIU-Edwardsville at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Stadium before hosting Big 12 foe Texas A&M in a three game weekend series.
