COLUMBIA — A St. Louis man was arrested Monday night in relation to a disturbance in the Rockbridge Estates subdivision.
Ricardo Thompson, 26, of East St. Louis, Ill., was charged with second-degree assault and two counts of leaving the scene, a felony. His bond was set at $13,500.
According to a news release, Boone County Sheriff's deputies responded to a shots fired call on the 300 block of East Catherine at about 8:52 p.m. Monday. On the way to the scene, deputies learned the incident involved about 50 people who were leaving the area in vehicles. The release stated one of the vehicles was a dark-colored Buick or Oldsmobile.
When deputies arrived, they learned that a 17-year-old male had been struck by a vehicle on the 5200 block of Tony Street, sustaining minor injuries. According to the release, the victim said a dark-colored car struck him before colliding with two other cars in the driveway of a duplex. The victim refused medical treatment.
The Columbia Police Department contacted sheriff's deputies when they located a vehicle matching the description on the 4500 block of Southview Drive, the release stated. Columbia police officers detained Thompson, who said he was visiting a friend in the area when shots were fired at him. He added that a large group of people confronted him as he was leaving, causing him to lose control of his car and strike the two parked cars.
In addition to his other charges, Thompson had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a trespassing charge, adding $250 to his bond.
