COLUMBIA — The Columbia College softball team picked up 4-0 and 4-2 victories in a doubleheader sweep of visiting Stephens on Wednesday in an American Midwest Conference opener.
In the first game, Cougars pitcher Valerie Teter struck out 16, helping her cause with a two-run fifth-inning home run. In the second game, Columbia College used three runs in the seventh, including a two-RBI single from Kacey ReHagan to come back from a 2-1 fourth-inning deficit. Teter (5-1) also got the win in relief.
The Cougars play a doubleheader Monday in Orlando, Fla. They face Mount Mercy College (Iowa) at 1:30 p.m. and Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) at 3:30 p.m.
The two wins today make the Cougars 9-5 on the season. The Cougars are ranked 22nd in the NAIA standings.
