CAMDENTON — The head of the Missouri State Water Patrol is stepping down April 1.

Col. Rad Talburt has been with the Water Patrol since 1980 and was appointed to lead the agency by then-Gov. Matt Blunt in June 2005.

Governors often appoint their own directors for Missouri's top law enforcement agencies. There is no word yet on who will replace Talburt.

Talburt said he plans to retire from law enforcement.
