Three Missouri wrestlers guaranteed All-Americans honors

The Tigers sit in sixth place at the NCAA national meet in St. Louis after three sessions.

ST. LOUIS — The third session of the NCAA wrestling championships was a good one for the Missouri Tigers wrestling team.

Senior Raymond Jordan, and juniors Max Askren and Mark Ellis are on to the semifinals of their brackets and are guaranteed All-American honors.

Ellis will be an All-American for the first time. Jordan and Askren were both All-Americans last year. Three All-American qualifications ties a Missouri record and they have a chance for two more.

Michael Chandler lost a close match to Jordan Leen of Cornell. Chandler controlled most of the match, but gave up a late takedown to Leen, falling 4-2. Chandler can still earn All-American honors if he wins his next two matches.

Nick Marable won both his matches in the back end of his weight class' bracket, and now must win one more match to be an All-American. Marable won his second match of the day against Stephen Dwyer by the count of  7-5, making Marable 5-0 all time against the Nebraska grappler

Sophomore Todd Schavrien and senior Marcus Hoehn both lost their first matches of the day and are done in the tournament.

The Tigers are currently sixth in the tournament as a team.

The fourth session of the tournament starts at 6 p.m. tonight
