COLUMBIA — At 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, Columbia Police responded to a bank hold-up alarm at the Boone County National Bank located at 2711 W. Broadway, according to a news release from the Police Department.
When officers arrived on the scene they were told that the bank had been robbed. No one was injured during the incident and there were no customers in the bank at the time of the robbery, the release said.
A man walked into the bank and displayed a handgun before demanding money, the release stated. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, the man then left the bank and fled the area heading west.
Police described the suspect as a man in his late 40s to early 50s, between 5 feet 5 inches tall and 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a thin build and dark tan complexion. The man was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve sweatshirt with a hood, blue jeans and large-framed sun glasses. He was armed with a silver, semi-automatic handgun.
The suspect is also thought to be driving a small red Chevrolet S-10 or a Ford Ranger-style pick-up truck.
The Missourian previously reported another robbery at the West Broadway location of Boone County National Bank on Aug. 29. The suspect in the August robbery was also thought to be connected to a Sept. 23 robbery that took place at the First National Bank on north Stadium Boulevard.
When asked if Wednesday's robbery was related to the two robberies that took place last year, Capt. Stephen Monticelli said that he would not draw a direct correlation at this time, but that there were commonalities.
"I could tell you they are similar and the descriptions (of the suspect) are similar," Monticelli said.
