Today's Question: Is the economy on the road to recovery or ruin?

In a news conference Wednesday night, President Barack Obama asked Americans for confidence in him and the federal government to solve the country's economic crisis.

He warned Americans that fixing the economy would take time and require patience on the part of, well, everyone.

“Let us look toward the future with a renewed sense of common purpose, a renewed determination, and most importantly, a renewed confidence that a better day will come,” he asked of the some 50 million viewers watching the news conference.

The first question posed to Obama was about a proposal that would give the federal government more control over financial companies. Obama said the reason the country is having economic trouble is a lack of federal authority, essentially voicing support for the proposal.

But other proposals sparked by Obama's administration, such as the stimulus bill, have come under fire.

European Union President Mirek Topolanek, who also serves as the prime minister of the Czech Republic, called Obama's stimulus plan the “way to hell.”

Should we continue to have patient confidence, as Obama called for, or should we be demanding a new course of action to fix the economy?
