LETTER: Barbara Hoppe's experience needed for another term

Barbara Hoppe deserves another three years on City Council. With the economic downturn it is hard for some to return any politician to office, but we need to keep the good ones. Ms. Hoppe has voted consistently in favor of issues that affect not just the 6th Ward but all in Columbia.

She supports a strong and healthy local economy. Some call it quality of life: she voted yes for Discovery Ridge, yes for ABC Labs rezoning for expansion and yes for funding shovel-ready sites for new businesses. She voted yes for nine new police officers, a four officer Street Crimes Unit and a Professional Standards Unit within the Police Department to confront rising crime. She voted yes for Columbia’s first Storm Water Ordinance to protect downstream homes from flooding. She is also working on modernizing our city zoning laws and Comprehensive Growth Management Plan to ensure sustainable grows for all the taxpayers of Columbia.

We have all seen what term limits have done to our state legislature. We cannot afford to lose the experience and knowledge that Ms. Hoppe brings to the council.
