Police car hits, kills man lying in the street Saturday

COLUMBIA — A Columbia Police Department car struck and killed a man who was lying in the middle of a road Saturday night, according to a department news release.

While traveling west on Clark Lane near Lambeth Drive at about 11 p.m. Saturday, the police vehicle hit the man, who was lying in the road, according to the release.

The victim, who was identified as Jeremy W. Setzer, 24, of Columbia was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

The driver was Officer Alan Mitchell, who has been with the department for six years, according to the release.
