Rock Bridge got off to a positive start Tuesday, beating Hickman by five strokes in both teams’ season opener at the L.A. Nickell Golf Course.
Rock Bridge shot a 159, while Hickman shot a 164 on the nine-hole, par 35 course.
While gusty winds and cold conditions put a damper on his team’s first match, Rock Bridge coach Doug Daniels said he was happy to get a win under his team’s belt.
“Terrible cold, nasty day. We froze our butts off,” Daniels said. “I thought we’d have all of our guys shoot under-40, but I guess I have to remember the conditions.”
Wilson Sundvold and Andrew McGinnis both shot a 39 for the Bruins. The Kewpies’ Mike Wilson led all golfers with a 38.
The Bruins next match is at 4 p.m. Thursday at Sedalia. Daniels said he is looking forward to the 12-team, 18-hole Columbia Classic, which starts at 9 a.m. Monday at A.L. Gustin Golf Course.
