LETTER: Robison a strong voice for law enforcement, development

As someone who has known Rod Robison for more than 20 years, I’m writing to urge voters in the Sixth Ward to vote for him on April 7. I believe he would be a welcome change on the Columbia City Council.

Over the years that I’ve been friends with Rod, I’ve seen him as always being level-headed and calm. He never lets his emotions cloud his better judgment. He listens to others, even when he disagrees, and is always considerate of opposing views.

One of Rod’s greatest strengths is his strong support of law enforcement. Rod volunteered his time for many years helping the Columbia Police Department. He believes that some crime can be prevented and would work to see programs implemented that would accomplish that goal. Enforcement is important, too, in reducing the level of violent crime in the community. These are among the many reasons why Rod has received the endorsement of the Columbia Police Officers Association. They, like me, believe Rod is the best candidate to improve public safety.

In addition to Rod’s involvement in law enforcement, he’s been an active member of our community on many other fronts. He’s been a volunteer for the Missouri State Games and the Senior State Games. Both of these events are important revenue sources for our local economy and rely heavily on volunteer support. Rod’s done his part. His expertise in these sports comes from his experience as an official with the University of Missouri Track and Field Officials Association.

And finally, Rod believes in taking a well-reasoned, balanced approach to city economic growth. Columbia needs to attract more businesses and encourage them to locate here. The current council appears to be too willing to throw up roadblocks for development. Quality businesses need encouragement to establish here, not increasing regulation and opposition.

In closing, I wish I lived in the Sixth Ward, where I could vote for Rod Robison. The next best thing I can do is to persuade voters in the Sixth Ward to vote for Rod Robison for Sixth Ward councilman. We don’t need more of the same.
