It’s probably true that Barbara Hoppe has paid more attention to the appearance of the city and county than most other council members. This does not mean, however, that she has neglected the business interests of the community.
I’ve met four or five seniors who said that after retirement, they moved to Columbia precisely because the city was attractive and the county beautiful. I suspect this has also been the case for some MU faculty. It was for us. All new residents help Columbia business. Some of us have even owned business in the area; our family has owned three. Simply put, the attractiveness of Columbia and the natural beauty of the county are business assets. It would be foolish to neglect them.
