WINSTON — Nearly 100 dogs and puppies believed to have been living in a squalid, unlicensed northwest Missouri puppy mill will be cared for in St. Louis.
The 92 dogs are mostly smaller breeds, including Yorkshire terriers, Pekingese, Chihuahua, Maltese, and miniature pinschers and poodles. They may eventually be placed for adoption pending the outcome of Monday's disposition hearing in Daviess County.
Three people are in custody on animal abuse and other charges.
Authorities were called to the Winston property Monday over an angry chimp, which was fatally shot by a deputy. Three other primates were also recovered.
