Big inning boosts Missouri baseball team
COLUMBIA — The Missouri baseball team finally got the key hits it was looking for Sunday.
Missouri beat Oklahoma 5-4 at Taylor Stadium on Sunday in the series finale thanks to a five-run second inning.
The Tigers sent nine batters to plate and had four hits in the inning.
"That was big," coach Tim Jamieson said. "We have been looking for that for just about the entire year."
Right fielder Aaron Senne drove in two runs with two outs, and Greg Folgia followed with an RBI double.
"Their starter was a majority fastball guy, and we came out today ready," said second baseman Connor Mach, who went 2-for-3. "We were hungry today after the first two games we lost, so we were ready to hit, you know hitting fastballs and hitting the ball well."
Tepesch struck out nine Sooners but gave up two solo home runs and four earned runs in six innings. Tepesch was pulled in the seventh inning after he gave up one of his home runs and a double.
"I thought he was pretty much like he has been all year," Jamieson said. "We have to figure out some way to keep his mistakes in the ballpark. I think he has given up nine or ten home runs now. Outside of those mistakes, he has had a pretty solid year."
Closer Brad Buehler earned his third save of the season thanks to Jamie Johnson hitting into a double play off a line drive.
"I always look forward to this type of pressure," Buehler said. "I love it when I am put in these situations. I went in against Texas, and I just couldn't get nothing. It didn't turn out my way, but I told (pitching) coach (Tony) Vitello , 'I want to be in these situations.'"
