The Rock Bridge boys golf team placed fifth in the 13-team Columbia Classic tournament on Monday afternoon at A.L. Gustin Golf Course, while Hickman finished seventh.

Rockhurst won with a 303, Rock Bridge shot a 317 and Hickman had a 325.  Hickman’s Taylor Cox shot a 74 to earn fourth place out of 65 golfers at the event. The Bruins' Wilson Sundvold, Andrew McGinnis, and Will Echelmier each shot 79s on the par-70 course, and teammate Scott Skrabal shot an 80.

Rock Bridge coach Doug Daniels said that though his team is inexperienced it has talent.

“We’re young, but I know they’ve got a lot better golf in them,” Daniels said. “I think we’ll continue to improve as the season goes on.”

Monday's chilling winds did not offer ideal playing conditions. Still, Hickman coach Carol Kyd said she was pleased with her team’s performance.

“It was extremely brutal today,” Kyd said. “Under the conditions they did fine.”

So far, Rock Bridge has struggled against the cold or has been rained out.

“They’re just anxious to play on a day they're not out there freezing,” Daniels said.

The Bruins said they hope the weather at Wednesday’s William Woods Invitational in Fulton  will warmer.
