VOTER REACTION: Second Ward voters consider economy as they vote

Voters were interviewed at Knights of Columbus between 6:30 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Tuesday and were asked what their thoughts were on the Second Ward candidates. Here's what they said:

"I liked (Allan Sharrock's) military leadership and his success in that, and that he's a teacher."

"They should really consolidate all the elections into one day. Probably save a lot of money."

— Thomas Rose, 37, MU business college staff member

"I've been busy, I don't pay too close attention, I just picked a name (for City Council)."

— Chester McDonald, 77, retired teacher

"I've got two kids that will both go to Ridgeway, and I wanted to get someone who wasn't going to cut Ridgeway's magnet status."

— Sue Schommer, 37, MU assistant professor

"I think we need jobs and economic growth, so I'm voting for the pro-business candidate (which he said was Jason Thornhill)."

— Jeff England, 62, owner of Jazz, A Louisiana Kitchen

"My husband, Bill Meredith, is running for School Board, and so obviously I voted for him."

— Jeralyn Meredith, 44, Web designer at Columbia College

"The school board just seemed like they were above the taxpayer. They didn't want to answer to the taxpayers the past few years. They were just like 'We're going to do this whether you like it or not.'"

— Lee Meyers, 62, part-time emergency room doctor

"I just wish more people would vote, that they would just study the issues and vote."

— Marilyn Dike, 65, retired receiving desk clerk

"I actually liked both of (the Second Ward City Council candidates), but Jason Thornhill kind of threw it his way when he said somebody he liked was Obama and I thought: 'Well, if Obama can straighten out the country, maybe Thornhill can straighten out the city."
