COLUMBIA — The Hickman girls soccer team fought hard through the inclement weather Thursday evening but was unable to pull out a win against Lee’s Summit West, who beat the Kewpies 2-1.
“I told the team it was a tough loss, but we have to learn from it and pick our heads up because we have another game on Monday,” coach Tony Gragnani said.
Gragnani said the Kewpies had two good breakaways by Katie LaRue and Jessie Loch but that a Lee's Summit West goal in the first half took the momentum away from Hickman. The Kewpies rallied to score with five minutes remaining, but it wasn't enough to pull off the win.
“The girls will bounce back and be ready for Rock Bridge on Monday,” Gragnani said.
The Hickman girls will face the Bruins at 5 p.m. Monday at home.
