Pitcher Kyle Gibson threw his fourth complete game in conference play to help the Tigers get their fourth straight win over the No. 7-ranked Bears.
COLUMBIA — Senior pitcher Kyle Gibson threw his fourth complete game of the season to help the Missouri baseball team to a 5-3 win over No. 7 Baylor on Friday night in Waco, Texas.
Gibson struck out six in the game, allowing three runs on nine hits. The complete game was his fourth in five starts during Big 12 Conference play this season, improving his record to 5-3 overall.
With the victory, Missouri (17-17, 6-7 Big 12) has won four-straight over the Bears and its second game in a row after blitzing Minnesota in a 20-5 win on Wednesday.
Baylor (21-10, 7-6) scored first, tallying two runs in the first inning, headlined by a solo home run for Aaron Miller.
The Tigers cut the lead in half in the fourth inning when senior Steve Gray brought home junior Aaron Senne with a double. Senne later started off the sixth iwith a double, followed by junior Greg Folgia, who hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season. The two-run shot gave the Tigers their first lead at 3-2.
Senne went 2-for-3 on the night with two runs scored and has two hits in each the last four games.
The Tigers loaded the bases thanks to three-straight walks in the top of the eighth After a double play, Folgia came in from third base on a wild pitch. Junior Trevor Coleman scored when senior Kyle Mach singled, and Mach moved up to second on after an offline throw to the BU shortstop wound up the in the Missouri dugout.
Coleman and Mach each had two hits in the game. Mach's second-inning single extended his hitting streak to five games.
Due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, Missouri and Baylor will play two games on Saturday. The first game doubleheader is set to start at 3 p.m.
