COLUMBIA — Columbia police responded to an armed robbery at the Break Time in northern Columbia on Thursday night.

According to a press release from the Columbia Police Department, a man entered the store at 2402 Paris Road at about 10 p.m. and threatened the 19-year-old employee with a handgun. He demanded money from the cash register and the safe, the release said.

The employee gave the suspect money from the cash register but did not have access to the safe, according to the release.

Police Sgt. Ken Hammond said there were no customers in the store at the time of the incident.

The man then ordered the employee to go to the backroom while he left the store on foot traveling east, the release said.

The perpetrator is described as a 6-foot-tall male of medium build, wearing a blue sweatshirt with a silver hood and camouflage bib overalls.

Police are asking anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 875-8477.
