Missouri's Carroll named MVP of Portsmouth Invitational

Missouri's DeMarre Carroll was named the MVP of the 2009 Portsmouth Invitational this weekend, after averaging 16.3 points and 10.3 boards in three games.

In its 56th year, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament invited 64 of the nation's best senior college basketball players to participate in a four-day, 12-game tournament played in front of representatives for each NBA team.

Carroll scored 20 points and had 16 rebounds Saturday night to lead his team to a third-place finish out of eight teams.

In addition to earning the tournament's MVP, Carroll ranked in the Top 10 in scoring (sixth), rebounding (forth), field goal percentage (forth), assists (10th), and offensive rebounds (third).

Seven players from the Big 12 Conference, including Missouri's Leo Lyons, played in the tournament this weekend in Virginia. Lyons averaged 13.7 points in three games to finish second in scoring on his team behind former Texas guard A.J. Abrams. Overall, Lyons finished 13th in scoring in the tournament.
