As you may know, before Angela Davis took the stage Thursday, fliers were thrown onto campus bulletin boards with “Protest” and spun sound-bite style "facts" about Ms. Davis' history, used in an attempt to condemn her presence at MU.
The fliers' creators used "normal" (to Fox News) rhetoric in an attempt to dissuade the trust of a great activist and, I assume, simply to consolidate a feeling of security in their ideology of neo-liberalism while the world media yells, “crisis” over and over. “Two-time VP candidate on the Communist Party's presidential ticket” and “self-proclaimed socialist” were purported as still negatively connotated facts, while banks and corporations using the "capitalism" model currently apply bailout funds to ... generally not keep houses and businesses open for working people.
I hope we can reconcile the connotation of words of changing meaning as we progress through this new historical period.
