COLUMBIA — A reported burglary Monday afternoon ended in a slow vehicle pursuit after a witness spotted two suspects kicking a door in and removing property from a neighboring house.
According to a news release from the Columbia Police Department, the witness was able to provide a description of the suspects, their vehicle and the direction they were headed. Officers located the vehicle driving south on Rangeline Street and attempted a traffic stop.
The vehicle refused to stop and led police on a short pursuit, never exceeding 35 miles per hour, according to the release. The pursuit ended after the suspects pulled into a residential driveway. According to the release, several items of stolen property were recovered from the vehicle.
Terry Simmons and John Wingate, both of Columbia, were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, according to the release. Simmons, who was driving the vehicle, was also charged with driving with a revoked license and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle.
