COLUMBIA — Between $50,000 to $60,000 of counterfeit Ed Hardy and Nike merchandise was seized Thursday by Columbia police from a local business, according to Sgt. Ken Hammond of the Columbia Police Department.

Private investigators alerted the Police Department to the counterfeit merchandise, and at 12:40 p.m. Thursday, police executed a search warrant at New York Fashion, located in Parkade Center off Business Loop 70.

Hammond said the confiscated clothing items are considered evidence but that they eventually will be destroyed.

The owner of the retail store was unavailable for comment.

The investigation is ongoing, and police encourage anyone with information to submit tips to the CrimeStoppers Web site.
