LETTER: Steinmetz makes great points on concealed-carry legislation

Friday, April 17, 2009 | 12:24 p.m. CDT

I want to compliment Katy Steinmetz on her Opinion column "Concealed weapons won't increase safety" on April 14. This should be required reading for every member of the Missouri House of Representatives who approved guns on college campuses.

She demonstrated mature insights and reasoning that obviously have failed our elected representatives (except for our three local House members who showed their own wisdom and voted against this folly). Our legislature has already defied the will of the people by ignoring the referendum against concealed weapons and now they top that with expansion of the gun culture into classrooms. This state needs less guns and more mental health funding.

While we're at it, how about electing a legislature that stops puppy mills, ugly billboards on the highways and continuously thinking up ways to limit a woman's right to chose or to block the advances in stem cell research.
