COLUMBIA – The Rock Bridge boys tennis team moved to 9-0 on the season with a 9-0 win over Springfield (Ill.) High School on Monday in St. Louis.
The match was closer than the score, though, as five of the matches went to third set tiebreakers. In four of those five matches, Rock Bridge had to come back after losing the first set to win the next two.
At No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, Aaron Skinner and Blake Buchert, and Ford Zitsch and Jimmy Hunter, respectively, battled back after losing the first set to win the second and close the match in the third by taking the tiebreaker.
The same happened at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, with Sam Johnson and Phillip Atwood, respectively, coming back from first set losses to win the match in third set tiebreakers.
The Bruins’ next match is against Springfield (Mo.) Glendale at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethel Park.
