PrintST. LOUIS — The attorney for Dennis Skillicorn is seeking a stay of execution for the man convicted of killing a Missouri man 15 years ago.
The Missouri Supreme Court on Monday set a May 20 execution date for Skillicorn. He would be the first person executed in Missouri since October 2005.
In the stay request received by the Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday, attorney Jennifer Merrigan seeks to prohibit Gov. Jay Nixon from making a clemency decision, instead deferring to a board of inquiry.
Among other things, the stay request questions whether Nixon could make a fair decision on clemency because, as attorney general, his office was responsible for arguing against appeals for death row inmates.
A spokesman for Nixon did not immediately comment.

I have seen a lot of men in life who kill people for petty gains or for no reason
or just for erasing mental stress. Exploitation and suppression has become order of the day. Guns and bullets are as cheap as peanuts. Gun culture is spreading.
Whatever may have been the reasons for killing BUT JSTICE MUST PREVAIL AT ANY COST.
