COLUMBIA — On Tuesday night, a Jefferson City man was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to a Sheriff's Department news release. The man has four previous convictions on the same charge.
At 10:52 p.m. Tuesday, a sheriff's deputy saw a vehicle driving north on U.S. 63 near Route B engaging in several traffic violations, according to the release. The vehicle was weaving in between lanes of traffic and at one point was driving as slowly as 20 mph. The deputy stopped the vehicle and following a roadside investigation, arrested William P. Cayce Jr., 51, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, which was a felony charge because of his classification as chronic offender, and a misdemeanor count of driving while revoked, according to the news release.
Cayce's license had been previously revoked because of several active 10-year denials from the Missouri Department of Revenue, the release said. He was also on parole.
From September 2004 to September 2006, Cayce was convicted four times of driving while intoxicated, according to the release. The last two convictions were felony charges. Cayce was classified as an aggravated driving while intoxicated offender.
Cayce was released at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday. Bond for the driving with a revoked license charge was set at $500. The bond on the driving while intoxicated charge had yet to be set as of 10 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Sheriff's Department.
