COLUMBIA — As part of the Columbia’s red-light camera project, two intersections are being evaluated Tuesday and Wednesday, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.
Allstate Consultants will be evaluating the two intersections — at Stadium Boulevard and Worley Street and at Providence Road and Broadway — working as a subcontractor for GATSO USA. The company was selected to install, monitor and operate the red-light camera project to limit the number of drivers running red lights.
Equipment, vehicles and people will be at the intersections, but no red-light cameras will be installed at this time, the release stated.
In 2006, the City Council passed an ordinance to enforce red-light violations, allowing the city manager to initiate a red-light camera enforcement system.
