PrintCOLUMBIA — Nearly 80 MU graduate students will share their fields of study with the community on Saturday at the annual Adventures in Graduate Education event. The event is designed for families with grade-school children.
As part of Graduate Education Week in Missouri, each participating graduate student has created a booth or exhibit designed to teach children and visitors about their field of study.

“The idea behind the event is to spark kids’ interest in graduate education,” said Mike Zweifel, information specialist for the MU Graduate School. “It helps the children and their parents to get an idea of what our grad students do.”
The event will be held in MU’s Jesse Hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will also feature a few outdoor exhibits. Admission is free, and visitors may park for free in nearby Turner Avenue Garage. Free Tiger Stripe ice cream will also be given to the first 250 students.
Students from many different specialties and programs have created exhibits.
“We’re kind of all over the map with the type of booths we’re going to have,” Zweifel said. “So there’s probably going to be something for everyone.”
Zweifel said students from the animal science program plan to have a “Fun with Farm Animals” booth, at which there will be a live calf.
Other booths include “Fun in the Sun,” where parents and children can learn about skin safety during the summer months and “Reptiles of Missouri,” featuring different scaled creatures.
Zweifel encouraged parents to bring their camera, as there should be several photo opportunities.
“Come and have a good time,” he said. “The entire family is welcome.”
