Missouri tennis ousted from Big 12 championships

The No. 8-seed Tigers fell 4-0 to No. 1-seed Baylor, but the team had its best season in several years.

COLUMBIA —The Missouri tennis team saw its 2009 season come to an end with a loss to Baylor in Norman, Okla., on Friday at the Big 12 Conference championships.

The No. 8-seed Tigers (9-12, 4-7 Big 12) took on the the top-seeded Bears (22-4, 11-0 Big 12) in the second round of the Big 12 Championships and were defeated, 4-0.

The Bears snagged the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 matches and then took the top three singles matches to end Missouri's season.

 This season was one of the best recently for the Tigers, who finished eighth in the conference. It is the highest the team has finished since 2005. The team's 4-7 Big 12 record is two wins more than than the 2008 campaign.

The Tigers also consistently held a place in the top-75 national rankings for most of the season, reaching No. 58 at their peak.
