COLUMBIA – A man was ejected from his vehicle after it flipped in an accident Saturday night on U.S. 63 just south of Discovery Parkway, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

According to the release, the two vehicles involved in the accident were traveling southbound side by side on the highway.

At approximately 8:50 p.m., Barry Nichols, 51, of Ashland was attempting to move from the left lane to the right lane and collided with the vehicle of Lawrence Mayes, 40, of Columbia, which caused Mayes' vehicle to go off the road and flip, according to the release.

Mayes was ejected from his vehicle and was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the release. Mayes was issued a citation for a seat belt violation and Nichols was issued a citation for unsafe movement left or right on the roadway. He was not injured in the accident.

I discovered Discovery Parkway last month. It's a newly designated road that goes to a dead end. Not very exciting, nothing really to discover. Unless you discover how dangerous it might be to be driving along side of someone who can't judge how to pass safely. (This might become an access road to Phillips Lake, but I'm not sure.)
