Pig Brown, former Tigers safety, earns NFL tryout

COLUMBIA — Former Missouri safety Cornelius "Pig" Brown will get a chance to follow his NFL dream.

The safety, who last suited up for the Tigers in 2007, will participate in the Green Bay Packers' upcoming mini-camp tryout, his agent Tim Rogers said. The mini-camp to be held Friday through Sunday.

The news comes after six Tigers players were selected in the NFL Draft this past weekend, and five more — including quarterback Chase Daniel — inked free agent deals.

This will be Brown's second attempt to make an NFL roster. After the 2008 NFL Draft, Brown tried out with the Kansas City Chiefs but did not make the squad. At the time, he  had not completely recovered from a torn Achilles' tendon suffered in a game against Iowa State midway through his senior season.

Since December 2008, Brown had been playing for the St. Louis-based RiverCity Rage of the Indoor Football League. The league is viewed as a vehicle to reach the next level, and Rogers said that's exactly why Brown chose to play for the Rage.

"He's been recouping from that Achilles' injury," Rogers said. "He just really did it (played for St. Louis) so he could stay in shape and get to this point again. He's back to where he started, and we'll see what happens this weekend."
