Swine flu prompts Washington University to halt study abroad

ST. LOUIS — Citing concerns about the swine flu, Washington University is canceling its undergraduate study program in Mexico.
Sixteen students were scheduled to leave St. Louis for Puebla, Mexico, on May 27. But the university says it decided to cancel the program for this year based on information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The students were scheduled to stay with local families for six weeks while they learned Spanish and studied Mexican culture.
University officials say there's still an opportunity for students to travel to other countries.
Two more study-abroad trips to Mexico are scheduled for the fall. A decision on whether to go forward with those trips will be made later.
