COLUMBIA — Around 1 a.m. Friday morning a 19-year-old male was on his motor scooter when two young men with covered faces confronted him and demanded he hand it over, according to a press release from the Columbia Police Department.
One of the suspects told the victim that he had a gun and demanded he give them the scooter and other property, but the victim never saw the weapon, according to the release.
"He tried to get away and at some point he was able to call 911," Captain Brad Nelson said.
One of the suspects then proceeded to punch the young man before he resisted his attackers with force, according to the release.
"He struck him in the face, which resulted in an injury to his lip," Nelson said.
Nelson said that the suspects then kicked the scooter over before fleeing northwest on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries, and the scooter and other property remained in his possession.
The suspects are two black males in their late teens to early twenties, six-foot tall and 160 pounds, according to the release. The armed robbery-attempt happened at Derby Ridge and Typhoon Court, and an investigation is in effect.
