COLUMBIA — After two overtimes, the Hickman girls soccer team lost to St. Francis Borgia 4-3 in penalty kicks Monday night.
"It is really unfortunate that we lost in penalty kicks but that's just the nature of the beast," Hickman coach Tony Gragnani said.
With the game tied at 3 at the end of regulation and two 10-minute overtimes, the game went to a shootout.
Hickman went first and its first shot hit the back of the net. The next two missed, but the final two hit home. St. Francis Borgia missed its first chance, only to make the next four consecutive goals to win the game 4-3.
Although the Kewpies are 6-10-1, Gragnani said he was still proud of their performance Monday night.
"I'm proud that we didn't give up and we sent the game into overtime," he said. "They didn't quit, and they made me extremely proud."
Gragnani said he doesn't think Hickman has anything to worry about on Wednesday when it faces rival Rock Bridge at 5 p.m. at Rock Bridge.
"You don't have to say much to get them psyched up for Rock Bridge," Gragnani said. "For Rock Bridge, they are always ready to play."

"Hickman went first and its first shot hit the back of the net. The next two missed, but the final two hit home." This is incorrect, this only adds up to 4 kickers. Hickman shot first and made the first TWO shots, missed the second two and made the final shot.
