COLUMBIA – One woman was taken to the hospital Sunday afternoon after a rear-end accident forced her car into a telephone pole, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol accident report.

At about 1:30 p.m., Shirley A. Pierce, 55, of Columbia was driving her 2008 Hyundai westbound on Route WW when a 2004 Kia driven by Olivia J. Byler, 55, of Fulton struck her car from behind and sent it off the road, according to the report.

Boone County emergency crews took Pierce to Boone Hospital Center with moderate injuries. She was released from the emergency room that evening. Byler told authorities she would seek treatment on her own for minor injuries.

Both Pierce's Hyundai and Byler's Kia were totaled, according to the accident report.
